Weekend introductory
courses leading to Paddle Canada (formerly known as CRCA) Flatwater and
Sea Kayaking Level I certificates. The undisturbed remote waters of Bark Lake have sheltered
bays with sandy beaches and large expanses of open water with exposed
shoreline, ideally suited for Sea Kayak instruction. Our instructors
will cover rescue, navigation and paddling skills - readying you for
venturing out on your own.
This two-day course
is the perfect introduction
to sea kayaking. It covers everything you need to safely enjoy a day of
sea kayaking in sheltered water and light winds. We begin with an
overview of the design, selection, fit and care of kayaks and gear. On
the water, we cover paddling skills such as fundamental strokes, braces,
boat control, and balance. You will also gain a thorough understanding
of kayak safety and basic rescue techniques such as a controlled capsize
and wet exit, assisted and unassisted re-entry, towing, and an
introduction to rolling.This
course prepares you for venturing out on day paddles, or an extended sea
kayak trip.
