Working well together, this course offers a superb combination of technical, playing and creeking skills and  for the solo whitewater playboater. . . and a lot of fun!  If lucky, your paddling antics might even be captured in Paul's sketch of the  week.

Beginning on Monday with a flatwater session, we review and learn, the basic skills necessary for successful river running, creeking, slalom, and playing in whitewater Andrew and Paul utilize video feedback, dynamic discussions and their own skills video clips to present the very latest techniques for solo whitewater playboating. We hone these skills before heading to the Middle or Main channels of the Ottawa River on Friday."

Andrew’s background in open canoe slalom balances Paul’s background in open canoe freestyle(rodeo). The result is a menu that should appeal to any open canoe playboater who is trying to learn or has a roll, wishes they were more efficient and wants to push their rapid running ability.

Here is a sampling from the menu:

  • outfitting

  • 2 by 4 forward paddling

  • reading water colour & texture

  • surfing-front, back and side.

  • creeking skills

  • rolling open canoe

  • slalom skills as used in river running
