CanoeKayak Canada will be rolling out the first stage – Trip Leader 2 & Instructor 2 program that is in line with Coaching Association of Canada(CAC)’s Long Term Athlete Development initiative.  Paddle Canada has partnered with CanoeKayak Canada in this  endeavour.  All ‘currently' certified instructors will be given the opportunity to recertify across the country under the new program.

For 2010, recertification courses will be at MKC:
Dates: May 28 (eve) - 30 at MKC, or
Sept 24-26 at the Gull during the Paddle Canada instructor symposium
Certification Cost: $120 - value for 3 years (must be a current member of CKC provincial organization)

Flatwater Kayak Instructor 1 Certification:

Course Cost: $200  (accommodation and meals extra)
Certification Cost: $120 - valid for 3 years (must be a current member of CKC provincial organization)

River Kayak Trip Leader 2 Certification
Prerequisite:  ability to paddle Class III whitewater with a proficient whitewater roll. Objective is to prepare club level trip leaders on Class I & II whitewater.  First day covers all aspects of trip planning, the second day a river trip on either the Upper Madawaska or Opeongo River – for the practical component.
 
Dates: June 3/4 or 
July 30/31

Course Cost: $200  (accommodation and meals extra)
Certification Cost: $120 - valid for 3 years (must be a current member of CKC provincial organization)

River Kayak Trip Leader 2/Instructor 2 Certification  
This course combines both certifications over 4 days,  It starts with an evening session. Prerequisites: Age 18, Class III skill level, proficient whitewater roll, First Aid & CPR. Swiftwater Rescue recommended.

The Leader workshop precedes the Instructor workshop, both include an evaluation component with real students.  This course is designed for Instructors to teach entry level students up to Class II whitewater kayaking.
 

Dates: June 2 (eve) - 7, or
July 30 (eve) - Aug 2 
 

Course Cost: $400  (accommodation and meals extra)
Certification Cost: $120 - valid for 3 years (must be a current member of CKC provincial organization)

 
Whitewater Open Canoe:

Paddle Canada’s Open Canoe
program has passed its pilot year with flying colours, and will be the national program of choice for both skill and instructor certification at MKC. This program has 3 levels:  introduction(FW-I), intermediate(II-III), advanced(III+).  For instructor levels, the candidate’s skill must be one level up.

Intro Moving Water Canoe Instructor: Solo & Tandem 
Prerequisite:  whitewater intermediate skill level – solo & tandem.
 
Dates: July 30 - August 2
Course Cost: $400  (accommodation, meals and membership extra)

Advanced Moving Water Canoe Instructor: Solo & Tandem (equivalent to ORCA MW II)
Prerequisite:  whitewater advanced skills with demonstration quality – solo & tandem  
 
Dates: July 6 (eve) - 11 Course Cost: $500  (accommodation, meals and membership extra)
 

 
Sea Kayak:

Paddle Canada Level II Skills/Level I Instructor Combo Course

This course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge for those wanting to teach courses and guide lake trips. The practical components of the course are held on Bark and Kamaniskeg Lakes, which are ideally suited for sea kayak instruction (video here).
 

Dates: July 18 (eve) - 23 Cost: $500  (accommodation, meals and membership extra)
